The Forest of Dean Armed Forces Support Network has published feedback from its recent community survey, which gathered the experiences of local serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

Although this survey was not conducted by Newent Town Council, the findings offer valuable insight into the unique challenges facing the Armed Forces community across the district — including isolation, lack of awareness of available support, and barriers to healthcare, housing, and employment.

The survey received 60 responses and shows strong community backing for the idea of a dedicated Armed Forces Hub in the Forest of Dean — a safe and welcoming space for accessing services, peer support, and connection.

The report includes real case studies showing the lived experiences of local veterans and their families, from struggling to find suitable housing to feeling disconnected from military life after relocating.

This important piece of work will help shape future support and local conversations. Newent Town Council would like to thank the Forest of Dean Armed Forces Support Network for their efforts in bringing these voices to light.
