Newent Association for the Disabled is the umbrella organisation for Sheppard House, Community Transport Services and the charity shop. It was founded in 1981 by Trudie Sheppard MBE. https://www.sheppardhouse.co.uk/
Newent Community Transport provides door-to-door transport for members of the community needing assistance with transport. There are vehicles with a lift for wheelchair access or if you are able to travel by car, voluntary car drivers are available. The Newent Community Link Service (run by Newent Community Transport) operates like an ordinary bus service. Just turn up at your bus stop at the scheduled time and you can use your concessionary bus pass. If you are interested in volunteering there are many roles available to suit your interest providing an opportunity to contribute your skills as well as having fun and meeting new people. You will receive training and complete a DBS disclosure with the organisation. Please ring and speak to Vanessa on 01531 821227
Based at Sheppard House; Opportunities include helping with gardening, assisting in the kitchen, helping with craft activities, going on trips and outings to provide an extra pair of hands, playing the organ.
Volunteer Mini bus drivers are needed to be part of the team that drive the fleet of transport
Volunteer Attendants assist the passengers on the mini-buses that take local people to shopping, appointments, activities, school and bring them home again.
Volunteer car drivers are needed across the area, willing to transport local people from their home to their appointments and bring them home again. Mileage is paid from the point of the driver’s home. You will need a driving licence, your own car or access to a car. If you are in the parishes of Kempley, Dymock, Bromsberrow, Red Marley, Pauntley, Corse, Staunton, Oxenhall, Upleadon, Gorsley & Kilcot, Newent, Hartpury, Rudford, Taynton, Tibberton, Longhope, Huntley, Churcham or Mitcheldean please get in touch.
Volunteer Charity shop assistants are part of a team that give local people somewhere to buy good quality items whilst raising funds for the organisation.
